  3. In Japan, not many people want to have children anymore. The government is actually promoting multi-child families to the public in an attempt to increase the birthrate.

  4. An interesting problem to have and far from the norm in most parts of the world. My economics oriented pals are quick to point out the grave risks when the birth rate shrinks, but I’m not convinced that my nulliparity is responsible for current macroeconomic woes… I wonder, @MinamiKamenashi:disqus, what do you consider some of the main reasons that Japanese are opting to remain childfree?

  5. More people are choosing to marry later, if at all, and Japanese people typically see children and marriage as one thing. A lot of people don’t see being a single parent (i.e. having a child out of wedlock, fostering, or adoption) as an option.
